How we choose and check gear

Every product page shows what we know, where it came from, and when it was last checked.

Where the information comes from

Specs come from manufacturer spec sheets and authorized retailer listings. We record the source for every product and leave a spec out rather than estimate it.

Our verdicts, pros and cons are editorial judgments based on those specs and on the consensus of independent reviewers. Where we've used a product ourselves, the page says so and names the reviewer.

How we keep it current

Buy links are re-checked on a schedule, and each product page shows the date it was last verified. Products that stop being sold are marked No longer available and link to alternatives.

We don't publish retailer prices from memory. Prices change daily, so we show a price tier and send you to the retailer for the current price.

Ratings

Where a product carries a rating, it's our own editorial score out of 10, with a named reviewer. We don't copy star ratings from retailers.
